The Beauty of Slower Season

Some seasons ask us to move forward. Others ask us to slow down and notice where we are.

For Rus, this is a season of learning that slower does not mean stagnant. It is a quieter chapter, shaped by faith, good people, simple routines, and a growing appreciation for the life already around her.

Perhaps there is something to be learned in seasons like this that not everything has to happen at once.

The Comfort of Being Yourself

If you met Rus for the first time, she hopes you would find her simple and easy to talk to. Someone who genuinely cares about people.

She feels most like herself around friends who share her faith. There, she doesn't need to perform or become someone else. She can simply be herself. But for Rus, faith is more than a common thread that brings people together. It has also become a vessel through which she continues to grow, reflect, and challenge herself.

Like most of us, she finds comfort in spaces where she can simply exist as she is. Perhaps that is also how she defines safety: being around people who allow you to exist without explanation.

Her safe spaces come in different forms: home, church, and travel. At home, there is familiarity. In her church community, there is connection. And when she travels, there is space to step outside the rhythm of everyday life. Different places, perhaps, but the same feeling underneath: room to breathe.

A Familiar Scent of Home

For Rus, the feeling of coming home is surprisingly simple. It is the scent of freshly washed clothes, just taken from the wardrobe. The soft, familiar fragrance of fabric softener lingering in the folds. There is something about it that makes her feel instantly at ease.

Maybe home is not always a place. Sometimes, it is a scent that quietly tells you: you are safe here. And perhaps that is why certain scents need no explanation. They simply make us feel something.

Taking Care of What Matters

When life becomes overwhelming, Rus does not look for complicated answers.

She prays.

She talks to God about what is on her mind, how she feels, and even the small things that worry her. In those conversations, she finds her way back to peace. It is a reminder that grounding does not always have to be elaborate. Sometimes, it is simply having somewhere, or Someone, to place the things we cannot carry alone.

And in a world that moves quickly and constantly asks us to keep up, Rus chooses to care for herself in quieter ways. Eating well. Working out. Getting enough rest. Reading books that inspire her to keep growing. Travel exploring new places. They may seem like ordinary habits, but together, they become a way of staying connected to herself.

Rather than constantly chasing what comes next, she is learning to take care of what is already here.

The People Who Keep Her Growing

Rus finds inspiration in the people closest to her. Her partner and friends continue to inspire her through their passion, discipline, and ambition to keep growing. Their journeys remind her that growth does not have to be a solitary pursuit.

She also carries the influence of her church mentor, who taught her not only through words, but through the way they lived.

Sometimes, the people who shape us most are not the ones who tell us who to become. They simply show us what it can look like. Through their actions, their choices, and the way they move through life, they quietly give us something to aspire to.

The Beauty of Enough

We often look for beauty in things that are tangible, visible, and worth showing.

Yet the beauty Rus notices most is the kind that can easily go unnoticed:

Good people around you.
Good health.
A loving partner.
Friends and family who remain present.
A grateful heart.
The quiet peace of accepting each day as it comes.

None of these things are particularly extraordinary.

And yet, together, they can make a life feel full.

Perhaps enough has never needed to be spectacular.

Current Chapter: A Slower Season

Rus describes where she is now simply as a slower season.

At first, slowing down can feel like falling behind. Especially in a world that constantly gives us reasons to measure where we are against someone else.

Who graduated first?
Who earns more?
Who built a career faster?
Who got married first?
Who seems further ahead?

We are often taught to see life as a race, even though none of us were given the same starting point, the same path, or the same destination.

But Rus is beginning to see her season differently.

Everyone has their own.

For now, she is learning to enjoy the process. To remain herself. To be grateful for every small step, even when the destination is not yet clear.

Because perhaps the journey does not always ask us to go further. Sometimes, it asks us to stop looking sideways long enough to notice the road beneath our own feet.

And to stay present long enough to appreciate how far we've already come.

Along the Way is a conversation series by Bentala that celebrates every person we cross paths with on this journey of life. Through honest and meaningful dialogues, we explore the memories, values, and quiet moments that subtly shape who we are today. Because inspiration doesn't always come from extraordinary lives. Sometimes, it comes from people simply learning to live more truthfully, one step at a time.
